NFL Draft Who do the Browns want for a Receiver from the 2022 draft.

I don't buy that there is a straight line to the OBJ fiasco determining that we can't sign a FA WR. It no doubt affects the cost and impacts the salary cap, but there are stats that support KS' offense willing to throw the ball and be effective doing it. Most of it the last half of KS' first season and when BM was healthy the first couple of games last season.

The FO could sell a potential FA WR on the fact that he would garner most all of the targets and have a very good chance of piling up personal stats, YPC, YAC and Pro Bowl(s), while helping the team improve its passing game. And to be a mentor to the WR's already here and any additions added in the draft.

That seems to me a reasonable way of selling it.

I agree on Jarvis. He can walk if he chooses to, but he's not worth 15 mil right now and I'm sure he realizes that.

What do you think is a fair compensation for Jarvis and the Browns? I'm thinking 8 to 10 million depending on incentives which I would make it an incentive laden contract so that he can add to it.

Its not even that BM is bad or the OFF scheme is ineffective.Its more BM is up in the air.he has a short term commitment and that is not attractive to a FAWR.so the browns arent sold on baker but we want you to buy in 100? does that make sense?
teams would love to pay 16 for juice.with our young WR room? (and about to get younger) hes perfect for our situation.
you say hes not worth 16? what is he worth then? 8!?! you want to HALF his contract ? a team leader? hes a solid 1,000 yards receiver.just pay up.theres still plenty of money there for clowney. you want to cut juice to save 6-8 million? thats a terrible terrible idea.jut a reminder,we've already signed and agreed to pay him the 16.just pay him.

The OBJ fiasco wasn't even a straight line. However, it did show multiple things to players in the league. 1) We don't use a star WR effectively 2) We don't make a our star WR a priority or make an effort to get him the ball 3) We don't have a QB who can get a star WR the ball with any efficiency 3) We insist on too many 2 TE sets that aren't conducive to true explosive passing offense 4) it seems like OBJ has bad mouthed Cleveland and the organization to every one who would listen...and players listen to him.

It's already been said by multiple 'in the know' people that Cleveland is not a destination for any top WR's at this point. That situation is/was a major reason why. It is what it is...time to build the WR corp through the draft.

It depends on the WR... Are they interested in cash.. or stats.. most likely....both...
 
The good news is we're probably not in the market for one of the star WR options in free agency anyway.

I think the real question is "Can we find a guy on a reasonable deal who is going to get more opportunity in Cleveland?"

I think guys like Christian Kirk, Michael Gallup, EQ St. Brown and D.J Chark are guys who may not get a real look as a true #1 from any team, but could feel they could earn that spot in Cleveland. Some of the top receivers in the league had the opportunity to emerge because they were not playing in a crowded room.

I also disagree with QCT on points #2 and #3:

- We definitely tried to get OBJ the ball. I'd argue we forced him the ball too often. In year one, he got 133 targets. In year two, he got 43 in six games, half of those games he got more than 8 targets. And in year three, he got 34 targets in six games - four games over six targets. I'd argue we're actually offering up the potential for a lot of looks.

- I don't think it's fair to say we don't have a quarterback to get a #1 the ball. Look at the teams expected to be in the market for receiver. We're not out here competing with Buffalo, Green Bay and Kansas City for a receiver. A lot of these guys are going to end up in situations with serious questions at quarterback unless they're going to the route of taking a big discount.

I've said this before, but I'd also really love to grab Dede Westbrook. Go get Dede Westbrook and draft Garrett Wilson in the first. Two guys who love Mayfield. If we could pair them with a strong FA grab and DPJ, I think we're looking miles better.

I can get behind Kirk or Chark as additions.

Like it or not, it's the perception of Cleveland and Mayfield in the NFL. And unfortunately for us, perception is reality.

There is no evidence that Wilson 'loves' Mayfield. Westbrook could be an interesting addition.

He liked a tweet saying the Browns could win a Superbowl with Baker Mayfield at QB, has liked a number of tweets where he's edited in to a Browns jersey and clearly has solid foundations with Mayfield based off some of the videos I've seen from Baker watching Wilson practice in high school - which also showed Mayfield himself is a big fan of Wilson.

I'll take that as sufficient for now.

And I agree perception is everything, but who knows if it has staying power. If guys want to go play with Zach Wilson because the perception of us isn't great, best of luck to them.
 
we prolly wont go after a high profile FAWR.1st of all the browns FO isnt real big on FA.especially long term deals that most want.2ndly we cant afford it.we need money for juice,clowney,njoku and ward.would you rather have a FA or landry? I know who Id rather have by a mile.we just traded for a big $ WR and it was a disaster.no,we do what we've been doing for the last few years.we build through the draft.we draft a fantastic rook at #13 and pair him with juice with higgins and DPJ.thats a nice room.we add another @1,000 yard prospect in the 5th rd or so for good measure.nobody could complain about that talent.

Just listening to Hartline talk about his Ohio State WRs. It's very clear amateur draftniks are underrating Olave. By far best WR on the Buckeyes team. He said his athleticism is off the charts, insane acceleration in and out of cuts. Amazing route runner. Said he is a plug and play guy that will immediately improve any team in the NFL on day 1, and is a great leader as well. On Garrett he said he has another gear.

I'll take Olave. And if GMs are smart he will be first WR off the board. Usually some aren't very smart so I am hoping the Browns pull the trigger.

we'd be ranked top 3 If JOK had been played from game 1 which he should have.
I know woods schemes improved as the year went on but Im still not sold on his skills as a DC.
by game 3 I was complaining about JOK's and delpits lack of game time,woods has this "earn it" attitude to talent I dont like.
even though JOK's field time increased I also think he could be used more often and more intelligently than he has thus far.
nick bolton in KC is a very similar (great) player
