If by successful you mean can play in the NFL, and start for one of the 32 teams, sure. I was more referring to being a franchise QB.

Depends on the definition. Is he Mahomes or Allen? No. But Baker's being treated like Deshone Kizer and it's kinda weird.
Baker has proven capable of being a guy who can put together some strong performances and play in that top 15 range. I think people are underestimating how difficult Mayfield is to replace. That the grass is definitely greener with Pickett or Willis, despite being considered pretty weak prospects, and they'll just automatically be better because Baker's just that bad.
I feel like the desire to move on is just a super limited 'all or nothing' perspective of the quarterback position. I said the same thing with Colt McCoy and Brian Hoyer. We were so desperate to cast them off for not being the guy, we surrendered first round picks to replace them with quarterbacks who were actually worse.
At the moment, Baker is essentially on a 1 year, $18M deal. He's also on a 2 year, $48M-ish deal if you take in to account a franchise tag. That's dirt cheap. He doesn't prevent us from moving on if the opportunity presents itself. And it keeps us in a position where, despite how hated he is, we don't have Weeden or Manziel starting. We've got the best of both worlds there.
There are so many questions surrounding this quarterback class. We don't have to be desperate because our situation isn't desperate, and it shouldn't be held to a standard of if Baker is a franchise quarterback or not. You don't move on because Baker isn't the guy, you move on because you think the replacement is.

Andrew Hawkins says Chris Olave is the best fit for the Browns. Said he's played in the Ohio weather, compliments Donovan Peoples-Jones with his speed and fits the offense.
He's kind of gone under the radar all year and has been a little overshadowed by Garrett Wilson, but he's still one hell of a prospect. Smooth, consistent, excellent hands, playmaker at all three levels, on and off the field maturity. He's a lot of fun to watch, and watching some of his interviews is great too. Very charismatic guy - ain't hard to see why his team mates voted him captain.
One thing I love most about Chris is his support of Wilson and Smith-Njigba. Imagine being a senior and watching the kids take all the damn targets, and responding by being their biggest cheerleader and filling your role to perfection. That's all class.
I won't be shocked if one or two receivers are off the board by the time we pick, especially Wilson, but Olave would still be a very interesting addition. He said at the combine he studies Terry McLaurin, Devonte Adams and Desean Jackson. I could really see him being a McLaurin-Jackson kind of player at the next level. He's got that big play ability, but he's certainly not a one-trick pony.

As far as Baker being a bottom 15 QB, sorry that isn't good enough. We need better. So we keep swinging for the fences until we hit it out of the park. I think QBs of Bakers quality are pretty readily available. Is Baker winning us more games than a Teddy Bridgewater? Doubt it.

the fact that nobody on this board has suggested drafting an immediate replacement from this draft shows your OTT baker bias. nobody has suggested it because its fu&king idiotic. so you're against drafting a backup? thats crazy. If we were to go WR at #13 then trade up into the 2nd rd for ridder? thats a smart both way bet. Insider Jordan Schultz reporting Browns are "real players" for Cooper, and a trade could cost a 3rd or maybe a 4th.
I still don't hate that. A 3rd for Cooper (preferably 91) and Wilson/Burks/Olave at 13 helps turn this offense in to a juggernaut, and we've still got 44 and 78 to address other areas of possible need such as IDL and DE.

We had like $35M per year tied up in Odell and Landry. Cooper costs around $20m per year. We're saving money at the position while overhauling it.
Rap reporting the Browns aren't done at the WR position and still likely to target the position early in the draft. This is an exceptional first round for receivers, and they run the league right now.
I don't think plans have changed. We're still just as likely to add a receiver at 13 as we were yesterday.

What this does is allow us wiggle room to not be pressured to take a WR that we don't consider worthy of the 13th pick, like AB has set up the last couple drafts. We have the ability to get the best guy at 13 whether that's a DT, DE or WR. Even another position like OT if we are not comfortable with Jack coming off his injury as well as Chris Hubbard. Much smaller chance of that, but the point is we have options that include trading out of that pick. Also, we only gave up a 5th and a 6th pick and it's almost virtue signaling Deshaun Watson to come here if we choose to upgrade the QB position.
Now if Jarvis doesn't restructure like Jack did, it's obvious he wants out of here because he's not getting 16 mil from anyone right now. I'd hope to get him in the fold too because that really opens things up in FA and leading into the draft.

It's interesting he's seeking a trade, because no team is going to offer anything for him with the contract he's got. Look at what we just gave up for Amari Cooper, who only costs $3M more than Landry.
The only way he's getting traded is if he agrees in principal to a restructured contract, and if the Browns offer for a restructure is competitive, who knows.
Personally, I don't know how I feel about it. I love Landry as a leader but I'd like to see us get faster and more explosive. It's just the way the league is going.
