NFL Draft Who do the Browns want for a Receiver from the 2022 draft.

there are 39 WR with over 1,000 yards in 2022. some wont be in the draft but I guess at least half will. so is it deep? very.
skinny thin fast WR we dont need. they will spend their life on IR in the AFCN going over the middle for baker
london could "fill out" as he gets older because that randy moss body type? wont last long here.
given all that? we should draft a QB in rd 1 or BPA.
No WR in any division ends up IR by going over the middle. The rules changes that have occurred over the last several years have taken away the big hits on wr over the middle. That is why every team has WR running all over the middle of the field these days.

Not to mention, positional importance hasn't yet run rampant. I won't be surprised if we see teams jumping up to grab a quarterback or a pass rusher. We might even see the same occur with the OL.

I've seen some mock drafts in which all receivers are still on the board around the time we pick, and while that's just a mock, it isn't the type you look at in bewilderment.

While that may not happen, it's an excellent first round to need a receiver. Williams, Wilson, London, Olave and Burks are all popular names flying around, and several should still be on the board.
All very true.

The other is if you look back at the last several WR classes a good number of the top performers were not even taken in round 1. Outside of QB you can get some studs in the top 3 rounds or so, if your scouting is good and pans out. You can also find a lot of dogs taken much higher than they probably should have with he benefit of 20/20 hindsight.

Then there is also who your QB is and the system you are running. That can make a difference on how successful a WR ends up being

Schefter confirms Jameson Williams did suffer a torn ACL. He said Jameson will have surgery within the next 10 days, and doctors are confident he will retain his sub 4.3 speed and make a full recovery.

Shame for the kid. This will be another to point when some question college players bailing out of bowl games when they are set to go pro. Hope he had insurance to protect against potential lost income/draft position

A lot of analysts saying Williams still goes in the first round due to the talent, but that he won't go top 10 which previously could have happened.

I think he's out of the question for us at 13. Baker has just one year left to prove himself, and I find it hard to imagine we see Berry use such a pick on a guy who won't see the field to help see what Baker can really do.

Realistically, it increases the chances another one or two of the receivers is off the board before we pick.

I wonder if that makes it more likely we could look to trade down and take a receiver later after adding some additional capital.

We know this analytics-wild front office loves acquiring additional selections, and it's possible we still see one or two of the guys like Olave, London, Bell, Burks or Pickens still on the board in the late first.

I agree a wr will be targeted being that Landry will be a cap casualty.......
Yeah... I think Landry might be gone..... But... I can see the Browns keeping him and DPJ and Schwartz... Hes the only pass catcher we can depend on... Maybe this sounds silly... But does Dez Bryant have anything left??.. Higgins however I'm really disappointed in...... I think he's either getting mixed up in drugs... Or he flat out just got plum lazy

Im strictly looking at the production versus the salary. I think the laptop will be looking to move on from Landry in that regard. Although i like Landry as a team leader, he did not strike me as a team leader this year. He seemed troubled and not focused. The chemistry just wasnt there

Spot on.
He may have seen the writing on the wall once Baker got hurt.

He may have seen the writing on the wall once Baker got hurt.

Don't forget he sustained an MCL injury early in the season, and ended up on IR for a month. Then he was dealing with a knee injury sustained against Detroit, which kept him on the injury list for weeks. He was very much among our walking wounded, playing a majority of games banged up.

But, with that said, he's 29 and there is a lot of miles on those legs - year eight with 688 receptions to show for it. He was never the most athletic guy to begin with, and that's a lot of wear and tear. I'd love to keep him around, but the pay would have to mirror that he's in the phase of his career where he's more of a complimentary receiver than the big name.

I still think he can be a fantastic slot receiver if he's flanked by younger guys, but I'm not sure he'll want to take a paycut. He's also at the difficult point where, should we waive him, we'll save a lot of money.

Like I said, I hope we keep him around. Great leader, great mentor for the younger guys and still someone capable of being an asset on the field. He's just not THAT guy anymore.

Also worth noting, there are some nice names at WR who could be free agents this offseason. They tend to get below-average deals leading in to stacked draft classes, so there could be some bargains to have there.

With Odell's fat contract gone, and the potential to release Landry if the team would prefer to head in a different direction, it could be an interesting idea to pair a free agent with a rookie or two - and what will hopefully be a more developed DPJ and Schwartz.

I'm partial to the idea of finding guys who are flying under the radar and not attracting top dollar. Not a Godwin/Adams type player, but one of the intermediate guys who'll get a more team-friendly deal. I feel our offense is at its best when we're spreading the ball around, and having a number of talented guys could provide a boost.

Dede Westbrook will be a free agent and he'd cost almost nothing. He's got a good bond with Mayfield (see link below), and it could help him revive his career after years of dealing with the Jaguars and Vikings.

why are our WR unhappy? why did OBJ walk? why do we anticipate landry leaving?
this is why we shouldn't draft a WR in the 1st rd. the better they are the more frustrated they are going to get when they dont get the ball.
If landry had 1,000 this year.would he still be leaving? what pressure will a big 1st rd WR signing put on baker?
It all goes back to the QB. If baker had played a little better and we go 10-7? 2 more games? no one wants KS fired.(or baker or the FO)

we should draft a QB in the 1st rd. Its not as aggressive as a FA QB and shouldnt upset baker like a vet FA might as its "for the future" theres plenty of depth to be had at WR this draft. historically we havent drafted well at WR in the 1st.
'05 we drafted braylon edwards who was fantastic..for 1 season. before him we have to go way back to the HOF and 1964's paul warfield
the rest? some were ok but no all pro seasons. our QB drafting on the other hand? no, Its no better TBH. :ROFLMAO:

SHOULD BROWNS DRAFT A QB IN 2022?

The answer to that is obvious to some of us. Laptop, Mayfield and Stefanski........

Its baker. sometimes the simplest easiest quickest answer is the right one.
mariota is interesting though? hes an UFA in '22. If we signed him giving up nothing AND signed a ridder or take a flyer on a zappe?
why take chances with the QB position? its something I never understood about the NFL.the old adage
"If you have 2 QB's you've got no QB's" really is a crock. white v staubach, montana vs young, brees vs rivers, kosar vs vinnie
the team always ends up with a good QB. we should go all in at the position IMO.

SHOULD BROWNS DRAFT A QB IN 2022?

It's an interesting question, because it wasn't production. It can't have been.

2020
Browns - seven games - 23 receptions, 43 targets, 319 yards, 3 TD.
2021
Browns - six games - 17 receptions, 34 targets, 232 yards, 0 TD.
Rams - eight games - 27 receptions, 48 targets, 305 yards, 5 TD.

So, not a whole lot difference. Except the touchdowns, but being the second read from Cooper Kupp helps.

Also, I want to get this off my chest:

The Rams were tied 31st in the NFL for rushing touchdowns, with just 10. We were tied 5th, with 20. Despite our struggles on offense. Despite Chubb missing 4 games and Hunt missing 8. That's because the majority of NFL touchdowns come in the red zone, and we've got two phenomenal red zone backs. While they are on the roster, it's unlikely we'll keep pace with pass-first NFL teams. Everyone knows Marshawn Lynch should have got the ball on THAT play, but we'll forever have it held against us that we pound the rock.

I'm not trying to say our offense was fine. It wasn't. But we were 16th in scoring (43), and 9 touchdowns out of the top 10. For comparison, we had 9 more touchdowns than Pittsburgh and two more than the Ravens. Let's trade for Derek Carr, whose LV offense had 6 less total touchdowns than ours. I never stop reading about how awful our offense is from the same media who'll relentlessly praise... less productive offenses which were actually healthy.

But, I digress;

For all the "Baker was the problem" commentary which followed, Odell never looked like a $20M receiver - even on the Rams prolific passing attack. He looked like a #2 receiver whose best days are behind him. And I could forgive that. What I can't forgive is a guy who quits on his team because he watches his stats. Because he demands a level of production he hasn't earned.

We're better off without Odell. Better off without the drama, the narcissistic approach to play and his utterly insane contract. I have no doubt in my mind that Baker Mayfield will be better next year. Maybe not the guy, but much better than he was. I also have no doubt in my mind that Odell isn't worth $20M and we're better off without him.

It's an interesting question, because it wasn't production. It can't have been.
LMFAO. are you kidding? he looks like one of the leagues best again winning games for the rams half way through a season!
thats not easy to walk into a new OFF and have an effect like that. come on. he literally went from zero to hero. but I digress..
Its nothing to do with OBJ.Im not sure why you dedicated your post to him? personally I dont care for him and my post was not about him.
So, not a whole lot difference. Except the touchdowns
Its just symptomatic of our spluttering passing attack. now you say hes washed up because it fits your narrative but thats clearly not true. Its the same reason baker fans want to blame the playcalling. well,It cant be baker can it? what could it be? I know, WR room!
the fact is baker has never been great at throwing outside or deep corner. he prefers TE or slot. not an opinion. the tape dont lie.
If we draft a WR I can almost guarantee he wont be as good as OBJ.therefore he wont impact the OFF much and will be a wasted pick.
no WR will want to come here.were a running team.we could even have a rookie hold out situation. Its possible.
even If we picked a QB in rd 2-3 Id be really happy TBH.
the question you answered is rhetorical. Its obviously because our passing game fu&king sux balls. Its no secret.new WR's wont help.
hey, stats dont matter If you lose. no one gives a sh&t how many TD's we scored.were out. (how good were the colts this year?)
a WR is only as good as his QB. my whole point is-replacing one excellent WR with another doesn't really advance this team.
were back where we were. worry about the QB.thats the key to this whole puzzle.QB depth and quality.
I agree on baker.I still think given all that, we can win with him. the right schedule with a healthy baker? we are playoff bound IMO.

BTW I like posts at BH because I can appreciate what you are trying to say and found it interesting. It does not mean I agree necessarily.

We have horrific luck when drafting WRs in the first round.

I know the Browns are going to kick the tires on some FA and maybe some fire sale QBs. Yes, Baker is going to be better when healthy. That much is obvious but he is still a short, unathletic QB who can't see the field, throws late, high, and behind, and hasn't improved at all since entering the NFL. If the FO doesn't have balls this off-season, and Baker isn't a top 10 QB.. say hello to another decade without a Superbowl.

To each their own, but I don't think anyone actually believes they were winning games because of Odell. They had an 8-1 record before Odell set foot on the field for them. He joined one of the best teams in the NFL because they were one of the NFL's best teams.

They also went 5-3 after he joined, so I feel like you're overselling him. Stafford also threw 6 interceptions in those nine games without Odell, but threw 11 interceptions in the 8 games after Odell joined. A decent number of which were thrown while targeting Odell. I could make a valid argument he actually hurt them more than he helped. He passed 80 yards in a game just once, and was held to under 20 in three. He had 101 yards in the final four games, on 23 targets. That's objectively bad.

Just for perspective, his total production was less than 2020 Hollywood Higgins.

My point is as you say - he went from zero to hero, without actually seeing a discernible increase in his production. A hero for racking up 300 yards in 8 games? For being their 3rd most productive receiver during that stretch behind Kupp and Jefferson? I'm just drawing attention to the perpetual narrative that the Browns are basically just the worst thing to ever happen to football. No nuance, no context. Just kneejerk reactions and resounding condemnation. Hell, Baker's character was the most questioned in the entire league this year - and another player was literally cut because he killed someone.

I dedicated my post to him because it was the part which interested me. I don't care about the quarterback stuff. We're not drafting a quarterback in round one. It's a bad draft, and our front office aren't the type to reach on potential. If we're moving on from Mayfield, it'll be a trade for Watson, Wilson or Rodgers. But Wilson and Rodgers have openly expressed that their tensions with their team have eased, and Watson is still on the hook for 22 sexual assault allegations - even if he settles with all of the women, can we really sell the future of our franchise on the trust he'll learn some self control and put his dick away?

I don't mean to be blunt, but I think you're in for a rough year if you're that committed to moving on from Mayfield. The chances aren't looking good.
