He can churn depth all he wants. I figure his scouting department is doing work all day long (!).

I think Mahomes, Mayfield, and Ward as first rounders over two drafts will put him in Canton. I'd like to know the scouts who locked him in on Avery and Harrison because that's some serious work right there.

Sure do, amigo. Just a lot of really good players, more than I can recall since... shit... since the 1980s, honestly. More than the 2007 team for sure.

I was looking at the depth chart that came out today and thought, "There's not one position that I look at and say 'eeeeeeg.'" I really don't. We look pretty damn good all over the field on both sides of the ball, even after losing Gordon.

For me... The X factor has two , one sided coins.. Anus Jones.. And Joseph our kicker.. Yeah He made those kicks.. Albeit with some crazy and uneven trajectories...Colquitt has looked a bit shoddy.. Man would I love to have Brad Seely or Jerry Rosbsurg coaching this ST's Unit!
 
I find that hard to believe considering all the trading that happened. I'll ask some of my KC contacts what they've heard.

Sure seems like a Dorsey pick. Fits right in with Favre, Rodgers, and Mayfield. I realize Favre was a Wolf guy but Dorsey was in the building.
 
I'm not going to spend too much time looking but I just peeped about 10 articles about drafting Mahomes with nary a mention of Dorsey, here's one.

Dorsey/Reid was never going to work, Reid was in charge the moment he was hired ....of everything. Dorsey is said to have a gigantic ego so there was no way that marriage was lasting forever.
 
Dorsey held his cards much closer to the vest than Veach did, but Cabott could tell he was into Mahomes, too, given the way Dorsey acted at the Senior Bowl – another college all-star game that the NFL descends upon for scouting purposes — which was held a few weeks after his meeting with Veach at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

“Hey, I want to talk to you about our guys,” Cabott remembers saying when they bumped into each other.

“OK, who do you got?” Dorsey asked, somewhat mischievously. “Oh, I know who you got.”

Turns out Dorsey — who Cabott remembers winking and walking away — was as easy for Veach to sell on Mahomes as Reid was. Prior to joining the Chiefs, Dorsey put in 20-plus years with the Green Bay Packers as a scout and front-office executive. The bulk of his time there was spent with Hall of Famer Brett Favre, and Dorsey grew to revere Favre’s combination of toughness, arm strength and ability to make impossible throws. Privately, he began telling folks that Mahomes had a little Favre in him.

I don't think there is any world where Andy Reid is hired as HC and he doesn't pick the QB if the opportunity is there.

I notice both of those articles presented are by the same guy.


They knew Dorsey was on the way out, like the tweet said, Reid was the guy who gave the stamp of approval. From everything I read it seems Dorsey had to be convinced by Veach to get on board ...but maybe they all liked him, who knows? Somebody said Dorsey liked Trubisky more.

I somehow doubt the only reason Dorsey was shit canned was due to poor cap management.

Not trying to pile on Dorsey, just in constant pursuit of the truth.

However, my inclination would be to go with the article that Shep linked since it was written at the time of the 2017 draft (April 28, 2017) about how Dorsey presented the Mahomes pick to the press and ultimately to the public.

In it, Dorsey sounds remarkably like he sounded about Baker Mayfield immediately after the 2018 draft. For example, In the Kansas City Star article, he mentions how the Chiefs brought all the quarterbacks in for evaluation and said that he asked the coaching staff to rank the quarterbacks on their ability to learn and retain information and, according to Dorsey, the coaches rated Mahomes #1.

That sounds remarkably similar to Dorsey's mannerism and language after the Mayfield pick. the only significant difference that I can identify is that the Kansas City Star article goes into detail about the trade that Dorsey had to set up before the draft in order to pull off moving up 17 spots during the draft.

I know you will attack me for "believing reports," but that account sounded pretty reasonably to me. Given the kind of detail in the Kansas City Star article about what Dorsey had to do in order to move up 17 spots in order to draft Mahomes, I tend to believe the Mahomes pick was a Dorsey pick.

And not everyone agrees on every philosophical nuance or on every prospect that comes around... I'm glad we have him.. So far.. No complaints from me...

Regarding the apparent controversy, I would mention that there is a difference between someone wanting/campaigning for the credit for drafting Mahomes in April 28, 2017 and wanting to take the credit for it in September 18, 2018.

In April of 2017, Mahomes was a prospect from an air raid offense with a strong arm and a reputation for being a gunslinger. By September 2018, Mahomes had transitioned into the position of starting QB for the Kansas City Chiefs and apparently one of the top young quarterbacks in the league.

Dorsey's story in April 2017 was that the reason he drafted Mahomes was that the Chiefs brought in all the quarterbacks for evaluation and he asked the coaches to rate them for ability to learn and retain information and the coaches told him that Mahomes was the best. So he arranged for the trade that he needed to make in order to move up 17 spots and draft the kid.

Per my understanding, Vetch and Reid are now saying that they, not Dorsey, were essentially responsible for the drafting of Mahomes. Apparently, Vetch was an early advocate that Reid respected from their days in Philadelphia. And it was due to their influence that Dorsey made the trade that resulted in the drafting of Mahomes.

I think the former is more likely the correct scenario. While Vetch may have been an early advocate, and Reid may have become an advocate too, my guess is that Dorsey relied more on the results of bringing in the quarterbacks for evaluation and the answers to his questions from the coaches than advocacy by Vetch and Reid.

But opinions will vary, I suppose.

It's all moot , really. and.. You,We,Me the Fans should be more concerned about how we got here with 6 and not worry about the Mahomo's and vetches or leaches of the world.. I like Mahomes of what I have seen so far..,, Its definitely obvious the kid is talented..
Let's worry about taking care of Our Neighborhood.. And getting 6 and the boys where we need to be....
