NFL Draft WR Draft Watch 2026

My thing with the Coopers and Bells is I don't trust Andrew Berry. Carnell Tate is safe. Jordyn Tyson has the upside. Give me one of those. Berry has not proven himself to be able to get cute at WR. This isn't a class where I think we NEED to go OL top 10. Give me playmakers. Since Amari Coooper fell off, we have been in dire need..

Can he catch the ball?

I know I'm a broken record but the position of WR requires one to be able to catch the ball. First & foremost.
We can include separation, route running and even blocking/physicality, but the guy has to catch the ball or he can't play.

5 drops in 4 seasons. So yeah... he's pretty good at catching the ball.

Andrew Berry's WR draft history:

2020 - Donovan Peoples-Jones in Rd 6

2021 - Anthony Schwartz in Rd 3 - I told you it was a shitty pick because he couldn't catch the football in college and he wasn't going to start catching it in the NFL. He didn't. BTW - Amon-Ra St. Brown was still on the board.

2022 - David Bell in Rd 3; Michael Woods in Rd 6 - Bell was a slow, possession WR in college. Waste of a pick. Woods was round 6... so just rolling dice there anyway.

2023 - Cedric Tillman in Rd 3 - A WR who couldn't stay healthy in college... and surprise, surprise... can't stay healthy in the NFL.

2024 - Jamari Thrash in Rd 5 - A Rd 5 players is just a flyer and a roll of the dice.

The point here is that he has never prioritized WR in the draft. RD 3 is not prioritizing the position. He's also drafted very poorly when he did decide to take a WR. I don't trust him to make the right choice as he tends to side with athleticism despite actual real traites that make successful WR's.

Carnell Tate is right there bro. Or Jordyn Tyson. Let's not get cute. I get that there isn't a Chase this year. But let's just be normal for once.

Elijah Moore was a 2nd round WR drafted by the Jets, and then AB gave a 2nd for him in 2023.
So, that's about the best we've done, meaning the highest draft capital spent.
A 2nd round asset for a 2nd chance WR on his 2nd team.
Of course, we're missing 3 years of 1sts, which restricts the assessment a bit.

First round picks:
  • 2020: Pick 10 overall – Jedrick Wills (OT, Alabama). Berry's first first-round selection as GM.
  • 2021: Pick 26 overall – Greg Newsome II (CB, Northwestern).
  • 2022: No first-round pick (traded as part of the Deshaun Watson trade package to Houston; the pick became Jordan Davis for Philadelphia).
  • 2023: No first-round pick (traded; ultimately became Jahmyr Gibbs for Detroit via multiple trades).
  • 2024: No first-round pick (traded; became Brian Thomas Jr. for Jacksonville via trades).
  • 2025: Pick 5 overall – Mason Graham (DT, Michigan). This came after a draft-day trade-down from No. 2 to No. 5 with Jacksonville, which also turned into Judkins in the 2nd and Sampson in the 4th, and of course this year's 24th overall pick overall.

Second round picks:
  • 2020: Pick 44 overall – Grant Delpit (S, LSU). A solid starter at safety who's been a key part of the secondary and earned an extension.
  • 2021: Pick 52 overall – Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (LB, Notre Dame).
  • 2022: No second-round pick (traded away as part of prior deals, including assets tied to the Watson trade package).
  • 2023: No second-round pick (traded; the Browns focused on other rounds and veteran additions) / Eligah Moore
  • 2024: Pick 54 overall - Mike Hall Jr. (DT, Ohio State)
  • 2025: Pick 33 overall – Carson Schwesinger (LB, UCLA).
  • 2025: Pick 36 overall (from Jacksonville) – Quinshon Judkins (RB, Ohio State).

So, in the first 2 rounds, he's gone with OT, CB, DT, S, LB, DT, LB, and RB. 6 defenders and 2 offensive players. Well, add the 3 picks for Watson I suppose.

===

Take out the Watson trade, which reportedly Jimmy told him to push through, he has a good track record in the first two rounds.

  • First round: he's hit on 66% of his picks, with 50% being the league average. He had to wiggle to get the Newsome pick to a hit.
  • Second round: he's hit on 5 out of 6, with the only miss being Moore the WR. The average hit rate in the 2nd round is 40%. AB is at 83%
===

Anyways, back to topic, he's tried to be too cute in the WR room for sure, but, it's not like he's missed on all the players he selected instead.

We have multiple needs one of which is Safety and Downs is a top 5ish talent. If AB is adamant about his 1st round pick being a pro bowl, if not All Pro talent I could see him taking Downs.

Safety isn't a bigger need than WR or OT.

That said, Downs is an elite talent. More elite than any OT available. But I really hope we go WR at 6. Can't win if we can't score.

Needs at safety? He has Delpit, tendered Hickman, and signed Thomas and he reportedly really likes McMillon.

If we ever were going to draft for need, which frankly nearly every team does despite them denying it, it's this year.

I really like the (supposed) 2nd tier of Fields, Cooper, Bell, Boston, Brazell.
Really hoping we love an OT enough to go with that at 6.

Lance Reisland on 92.3 yesterday saying teams really like Field's game tape and football-speed, and aren't as worried about his 40 time as much as fans and media are.

Delpit is good but if he were the 2nd safety that would be an incredible secondary to match the DLine.

Yeah, I overstated it, that there's a need.

I like Downs a lot and think he’s going to be a stud. But safety is a luxury… and the holes we have on offense are necessities IMO.

But if we can’t get Tate at 6 and they feel Freeling is too big of a developmental OT to take that high, I wouldn’t be upset with Downs at 6. No matter what, 6 has to be an instant impact player.

I'm not advocating for Downs either, but trying to see things like AB might see them. Usually that's talent acquisition and at 6 he/any GM can't afford a developmental player, I think. It's way too risky.

I'd take WR Tyson if Tate were gone. He's got all the talent. His issue is availability.

Now Im not making an argument either way, downs maybe a famer? who knows?
3 times S has been drafted top 10 since 1990
1991 Eric Turner (2nd)
2010 Eric Berry (5th)
2004 Sean Taylor (5th)
the best S usually goes late 1st,early 2nd rd.thats why NY picks tate not downs at 5.styles falls.
any GM puts their balls on the block with a move like that.the new NY coach wants points.lotsa points.

we should simply pivot If tates gone to fano (LT/RT) & the best WR for us at 24.
cooper is a great fit here& I hate to broken record this but dunker in the 2nd
as a G most likely.guys a beast anywhere.LT/LG/RT/RG.doubts about coop?
draft another WR in the 3rd rd.roll the tape..
