I'm seriously digging Dorsey's approach so far

BF... I am NOT trying to vault Dalton into anything...he is what he is...but he had a damn nice season in 2016. In fact, you might want to go look at the logs. In the 9 games he had AJ, he had only 2 games below 60% completion and 250 yards. In the 7 games without AJ he had 3 games below 60% completion and 250 yards. With AJ all year, he would have come close to 5000 yards and had his best year by far.

Again...the success with Dalton was the reason Hue got this rep he has, and Dalton had his best year the year after Hue left. Those are just facts. Not saying Hue was bad...or that his leaving was the reason Dalton had a better year. Just debunking that he was the ONLY ONE that could do it with Dalton...and maybe it was the evolution of a QB that made HIM look good instead of the other way around.

Some people have stated that his contract included a guaranteed 3 years. So this is year 3, they stripped him of his power, and now he gets to stand on the sidelines, fold his arms, and pretend like he is doing something.

Well, last year, "some people" were saying that his contract included a guaranteed 2 years. I suppose that next year, "some people" will be saying that his contract must have included a guaranteed 4 years. And I am not sure of what power you are referring to that was taken from him. Earlier this year, "some people" were saying that the hire of the OC would be taken out of his hands.

However, it is now clear that after interviewing other candidates that he chose not to hire, he immediately phone Todd Haley upon hearing that the Steelers were moving on from him, and it was reported that he and Haley had long conversations on the phone before he invited Haley for a visit to Berea to decide whether or not to accept the job. Haley has confirmed that his communication about the job was exclusively with Hue before his visit to Berea.

By the way, there was a similar rumor that Hue was told to hire Gregg Williams last year, until it became clear that Hue was on the phone to Gregg minutes after Gregg was fired by the Rams. Basically, Hue went after Gregg last year the same way he went after Haley this year.

Again, I am not sure what "power" Hue supposedly had before that was taken from him. It appears to me that the relationship between Dorsey and Jackson is normal enough. Dorsey has control of the roster and Hue has control of the coaches and the players that Dorsey provides. There is just one caveat that makes the relationship somewhat unusual. Both Dorsey and Hue report to the owner. It is my understanding that in most NFL organizations, the head coach reports to the GM.

I agree that Dalton was more effective when he was able to throw to A. J. Green. It is nice when you have great players to play with. And the Bengals didn't leave the OC position vacant just because Hue was a hot property and left. They hired a replacement.

All I am saying is that play selection works a lot better when the play caller has a veteran quarterback like Andy Dalton throwing to guys like A. J. Green, Marvin Jones and Tyler Eifert instead of a rookie quarterback like DeShone Kizer throwing to the likes of Ricardo Lewis, Rashard Higgins and Seth DeValve.

It was just not the same thing.
You noticed this but apparently Hue was Hueless to this fact.

That is really all I am saying. Hue Jackson, the offensive genius in Cincinnati didn't just suddenly become a blockhead in Cleveland.
If Hue wasn't aware of the above fact, he is a blockhead for not modifying his offense to suit the players he had.

However, if you don't have the horses, it doesn't much matter. For example, as I have previously mentioned, and as we all know, Crowell is not a RB who can move defenders and move the chains. Holes have to be opened up for him for him to have success. Therefore, when defenses load the box, expecting Crowell to get you to third and short is self defeating. Try that and you will quickly be third and long.

So when defenses load the box and all you have is Crowell to run the ball, you are generally better off passing, even when you have a rookie quarterback throwing to receivers like Lewis and Higgins. It doesn't mean you will have success passing, but when the defense loads the box, there really isn't much else you can do. When you have guys like Dalton and Green to move the defense back, it makes it a lot easier; when you are saddled with a rookie quarterback and receivers that defenders have no reason to fear, it is tough to have a credible offense in the NFL.

Hopefully we won't be in that situation this year. With Taylor throwing to Gordon, Landry, and, perhaps, Pryor, we will have a much better chance for offensive success, both running and passing.

I still believe Hue can be a good coach. He's in a put-up or shut-up year though...but fortunately for him he'll have some horses this year. The whole team was handcuffed last year.. Rookie QB and 4th tier receivers until the last few games.. He'll have no excuses this year though. Even if we did nothing more than the additions of the last 6 days... This team is already WAYYYYY better than last year.................................
...and the reality is.. free agency is just getting started and we will/should get some solid talent with those first 5 draft picks ++.. We should be able to compete with anyone if we can solidify the secondary.. even if it's just with a high draft pick at CB. The safety spots are covered with the dude from the Packers coming in. He's going to get bumped to free safety where he played in college... So we really just need another strong CB or two.

Hue is done. Hue, IMO has made WAY too many concessions as a head coach to be successful. His staff has completely turned over on the defense the first year and on the offense this past season. Todd Haley is Hue's demise. I don't see this marriage lasting more than 4 games before the thing explodes.

I don't love or hate Hue but making too many concessions about staff and personal will not make ANY head coach a successful one. He was handed a team without experience at ALL positions. He's gotten a raw deal and he's gonna be the blame of it all because he's now been here the longer than anyone in the building. If I was Hue I would have made them fire me. He would have been given a pass for the mess. Now it's his mess.

Except maybe it isn't really a mess. Before Dorsey arrived, it was admittedly an incredible mess, but recent reports from Silver and Kinkhabwala indicate that Hue believes that Dorsey is getting Hue the kind of players he needs to win and that Hue is happy with the situation. Maybe Hue's friends are papering over a few rough spots which I would guess probably exists, but the indications from his friends are that things are much better for Hue now with Dorsey than they were with Sashi.

Of course, with the players that Dorsey is bringing in, Hue will obviously have to show significant progress in the win column if he wants to hang around. With better players, better results will and should be expected.

I think Haley and Gregg Williams can work together.... One of them is made HC for 2019, probably Todd. You're not going to keep Hue around for a few million when it's totally unnecessary!

Enjoy Hue on the sidelines and in press conferences thru the Fall, bF.... it's your last blessed LOOK at him in CLE. Guaranteed.

Stepping in to try and smooth over criticism of the man is getting absolutely OLD.... when I see any negativity about Hue, I know I only need to scroll down to find you defending him and smoothing over some sloppy shit upon which his dignity may rest for now.

The man fucked over last year, badly. He didn't do Right things as coach. Hue totally fucked over young Toledoan, Son of Ohio, Deshone Kizer. He'll never get a pass for that or live it down. He tried to get him killed out there w/ the offense he called and he tore the young man down. It was one of the most disgusting things I've witnessed in coaching.... at ANY LEVEL!!

Give it up, bF....
Enjoy your bullshit Huey this fall
.....and rest in peace

To me Haley and Williams seem like the types of guys that if they were on the same page, watch out.

I am hopeful to see a more disciplined offense.

Whoever called Hue a figurehead, I think that was perfect but on a well built team a head coach really should be just that. They're the guy who eats shit, the subordinates ensure the ship runs smoothly. This is why I'm not a fan of head coaches who are their own offensive coordinator. Head Coach has a lot of responsibility and running an offense has a wholly separate set of responsibilities. Compound them and, especially first time HC's they struggle and how many times have we seen that here?

It's why I don't think it's so crazy that if Williams and Haley are still around, if we do well then Hue will remain also.

We shit the bed early, what 3-4 weeks rope? He should get the axe early.

In Hue's case, he seems to be good at making others eat the shit piled on his plate ;)

After the Hyde and williams signing..

Im more certain than ever Hue isnt really our coach.

Todd Haley is the Browns REAL and future HC. Makes sense.. he had an awesome run in Pittsburgh (the org Jimmy came from).. hes an ex NFL HC looking for a second run...

They are loading up the team this year so Hue has no excuses

Then.. next year after a rocky start.. Haley takes over and brings us to a superbowl

I wrote the movie.. now lets watch it

Unless Haslam wants to show he can give any future HC candidate three years and that he doesn't fire guys after a couple years. You know. The whole Hue is here for continuity's sake.
