Well based on the info we learned today.

Manziel runs only scout team reps when mccown is practicing.

Johnny runs the opponents offenses.

So per the info in the release today. Only when mccown has been injured has johnny gotten any reps in our offense at all.. even with the second team.

That's absurd.

So since Tennessee, Johnny had a walk through on Tuesday to prepare for the Bengals.

I hope everyone reads this post...

Lane's Insider.. Just Dropped a DEUCE on Pettine.

Its info and intel like that that make me happy I subscribed. Everything I feared is real inside that building guys.

Pettine is a rougue agent man

Just went and read it.

Indeed Pett is the odd man out with the FO big time.

No patience for Gilbert.

Never liked Manziel.

He and Ray in pissing matches and Ray seems to have Haslam's ear instead of Pett.

Pett set in his ways, playing his favorites, etc etc.

This wasn't specifically mentioned, but I'm betting he has O'Neil's back despite the worst D in the NFL. Big time.

Sounds as bad as we feared.

What a hot mess.

Will Pettine make it till the end of the season? The odds are getting worse every day ...

Yes, he will make it to the end of the season. I personally don't like to see coaches fired during the season. I do understand there are exceptions. It's no one on the Browns staff that would warrant taking over if Pettine was fired. The bigger mistake was hiring Farmer as GM.

if thats true that is troubling

Why is it troubling? It is the same as it was last year. The backup QB runs the scout team. It isn't unusual.

It makes sense if the backup is a veteran who doesn't need a lot of practice in order to perform adequately. But it does not prepare a young quarterback to start later in the season. The part that is a farce is that everybody seems to think that Manziel will be better prepared to start the latter part of the season than he was the first part.

Instead, as the season proceeds, the distance from extensive organized practice in the Browns system becomes greater and greater and thus a young quarterback without significant experience becomes less and less prepared. Mental reps do not take the place of physical reps and game experience.

B.S. DeFilippo would be more than adequate as a replacement for Pettine. This would also give O'Neil a chance to prove that he can run a defense if unfettered by an overbearing Pettine.

Hartline was on 97.1 The Fan this afternoon. Aside from sounding extremely mature and well seasoned in re locker room politics, he suggested is was a bad idea to play Manziel because the season has allegedly gotten away from the team. Rather, Hartline suggested Manziel should only start once he earned it. If he's given the job, there may/likely be resentments toward him from all the guys fighting to keep their job (essentially all 53). Throw the cherry on top of all of this (rich kid), and he might lose loyalties needed to be a successful QB in this league. Soo, I'll say ... just in case this thread gets well ahead of itself ... Coach might know best after all? I think he's ready to play. If I'm wrong, I would rather have that coaching buffer there as opposed to it being absent.

I could give a good crap for resentments by players fighting to keep their job. We don't need borderline players choosing our quarterback.

Am I the only one that thinks the issue is not about Johnny Manziel starting or not starting, it's about the health of McCown. I didn't think he should have played against Arizona because he was beat up and couldn't practice the whole week. Now you want to send him out there against the Steelers. We don't know if or when he will practice. To play a player that is beat up like that is insanity IMO.

McCown's a steer from Texas. He can handle it.

I think it is all about Pettine and his control issues.

I was talking about borderline players like Hartline. I also think it is ridiculous to take seriously borderline players attempting curry favor with the head coach by taking his line in an obvious suck up.

Hartline impressed me more than Pettine on this radio show, so I doubt it's a suck up. What I'm getting at here is that CLE is a hard working town. Blue collar. That's the rub Hartline was putting out. Johnny should earn it this way, not the wine and cheese way.

Got a question: how does a young prospect like Manziel "earn" a start while running the scout team?

I mean, if showing flashes as he did last Thursday night doesn't get it done, what must he do running the scout team to "earn" a start?

And what has Hartline earned? Maybe you were impressed with his interview on the radio show, but the real question is how has he impressed on the field? And what are the chances that he will still be here in a couple of years assuming we have an improved WR corps by then? Is he likely to be one of those who will still be here?

If we draft a QB in the first round this upcoming draft with only giving Manziel 4 starts, I will lose my mind. That would have to be a first. Has there ever been a first round QB that was given less starts before being declared a bust? At this point I do not care if he plays this year or not (I do believe he should have stayed the starter after the Tennessee game) but if we go out and draft another QB next year without giving him a proper shot, chalk it up, we really are the Clowns. I really am still at a loss for how bad this year is.

With Manziel, the Wow factor feels like it's there. I compare him to Cam Newton a lot because he does things that generate the excitement necessary for the NFL. And, this is often when I look at Pettine. Does he get Wow or not? I still don't know. I see little to no excitement that leads many to believe he's a simpleton minus the 'graduate level' defense? He's ready to play more often than not. I think he's dying on the bench.

I think Hartline stays no longer than his contract. Hope I'm totally wrong, though.

And u want to question firing pettine????

What the fuck. The kid knows the offense conpletely on his own. He doesnt gave any timing with our wrs because he havent evet thrown our pass plays to them ever.

Lineman never practice for him except 15 days inseason game prep. Our whole team has only practiced less then 20days as manziel qb inseason running our offense....two offenses....

I will admit that part of the article really caught me off guard.

I thought that the whole manziel only doing scout team was a shannahan thing.

I didn't know Pettine kept that shit going even though it was adamantly pegged as an issue.

Maybe all teams do it that way.. but for some reason I thought the 3rd string runs scout team.. and the 2nd string runs with the second team offense.

But instead they put manziel on scout.. and who knows with Austin Davis... maybe they have him playing scout team safety like shaw.

The other part that pissed me off is when they said Pettine is refusing to start certain players.. not due to their ability, but due to his personal feelings on them, and whether or not he trusts them.

It also pointed out Pettine clamored for Gilbert and Shelton.. but gave up on gilbert early.. once again not due to his ability, but due to his Character flaws.

Good. It is about time you gave up. :)

Look, I am aware that you don't like Manziel. You have said so at least a dozen times. You like a different style of play. I understand that. But regardless of your style preference, I think we need to find out if Manziel can be a winner for us. I think he has a chance. Or, more to the point, I think we have a chance with Manziel.

You still don't have a clue, so don't act like you do.
