After a trade back to recoup a 5th rounder, which Dorsey gave to Buffalo last year for Wyatt Teller, AB makes a nice “move and pick” early here on Friday night, and still gets his safety.

Solid SS. Range is limited as a FS, so that hole still needs to be plugged, but he should be able to cover the TE and RB while being an asset in the box.

Injury history is a concern, but those are the risks you start to make in round 2.

Round 2 is where you get your starting Safeties and starting OGs.

His “tackling issue” was probably a few things together:

1) Ankle sprain
2) Deployment changed midseason from attacking to Dropping High in 2019- may have had to do with Ankle, maybe also a conservative umbrella scheme the way LSU was putting up points!

3) Alabama gave him trouble. EVERYONE watched that game. He got trucked by Najee Harris 2-3 times, blowing tackles. And he missed a tackle on both Jeudy and Ruggs that stood out.
His tackling looked just bad that game. And everyone saw it.
Aside from that- when Delpit went to Single High Safety the whole 2nd half of 2019 he was MUCH less aggressive and took deeper angles allowing other DBs tackles instead when he could’ve been direct and made a tackle. THAT WAS PROBABLY COACHING.... as LSU just wanted to keep points off the board, Safely.

Have seen this point made before, once he got healthy and the games mattered, he elevated.

He's not Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott, nor even David Fulcher. He's likely an average-to-above-average-SS in 2020 NFL. I'm not sure that I could hope for more out of a SS at this time.

Were there better options at #44 overall? Oh hell yea. At many positions. LB, OG, DE, DT, OC, TE, RB, WR ... just about every position had talent with better grades ... but at that point (#44 overall), the talent difference is "almost" negligible, so ... go with need?
