Browns Pick #5, Mason Graham, DL, Michigan

• Graham makes the CBS all rookie team
• Schwesinger makes the CBS all rookie team
• Fannin misses narrowly, as although he lead in receptions, they must have preferred Warren’s total yards.
• Q had a chance until the OL made him the most hit-behind-the-line RB in the NFL + the injury. Treyveon benefitted from 1) the Pats successful year and 2) the Pats had the weakest schedule in the NFL. Their opponents had like a 0.350 win %. Horribly weak.

In summary, 4 big hits with our top 4 picks.
You don't have to fuzzy-math-it too much to conclude, our first 4 picks were "all rookie team worthy". And, that's on a team in the AFCN basement, in a very down year for the Bengals, Ravens, and Steelers.

I am sorry guys but IMO? 1/2 a sack all year for a 5th overall? he spent some time on his back I noticed.flat on his back.
almost any vet DT would be an improvement in FA IMO.
any previous draft and we walk away with a great DT at 5.WhyTF did you go DT with that draft?still dont geddit???
hope he proves me wrong on this one.

Sacks are not the way to measure DT's. Their job is to stuff the run up the middle first & foremost, take on dbl teams for the pass rushers and identify & run interference on a screen pass.

It's why on obvious pass downs we often see three DE's and one DT. So if a rookie DT is playing well sacks are a bonus opportunity in most instances.

Look at the Josh Allen sack at the goal line. Graham was hustling alongside MG and A Wright. the three of them took a lane and TOGETHER, they hemmed him in. Teamwork within the DLine unit is what forced Allen from being able to reset his feet and throw the ball away.

Its exactly my point though J.If Im drafting the top DT in the draft we ARE talking sacks, disruption and violence.
or what are we doin?
Im disappoint in him so far I'm afraid but DT often is a slow burner late bloomer too
I think its a position you have to spend the money on in FA.

I think Graham played really well. He still looks like a college kid. He's 22 years old. He needs to have a full, professional off season. He needs to work with Garrett and get stronger. But I still contend he is a leverage monster and excellent against the run. I also think he played a full NFL season for the first time and wore down a little in the last third, which is fine. He should be better next season. We will see.

No we're not talking about sacks from the DT position. Never has been and never will be.
In pass situations the DT's typically are tasked with pushing the pocket in to allow the DE's to pinch from the edge and get the sack. In long yardage downs they are to make sure the QB doesn't sneak under the DE's and leak out. (Aka maintain their lanes while the DE's work for the sack in a 7 step drop. A deep drop to allow WR's to get deeper downfield)

Some additional stats I ran across, when hindsighting last year:

Among all DT’s last season, Mason Graham was:

• Top-25 in total pressures
• Top-20 in pass rush win rate
• Top-10 in run stoppage
• Weeks 7-18 (20% snap min), he was 15th overall, out of 142
• Weeks 7-18 (50% snap min), he was 6th overall, out of 71 (i.e. the higher volume IDL’s)
