Browns Pick #94, Dillon Gabriel QB, Oregon (aka, the Amari acquired pick)

I can see why. He's not mistake prone. He functions well in the pocket. Has a good arm. His big issue is his height. But there isn't a glaring whole in his game.

Not to sound snarky or anything... But... I think people now see why Sanders is where he is on the Depth Chart... He needs more work... It was easy for him against 2nd and 3rd stringers.. He just needs to avoid getting down on himself.. I'm sure it's tough.. But its clear.. Gabriel is a cut above with his decision making..

I imagine Pickett getting traded for a 6th, or cut. Taking an "L" on draft value (vs what we gave up for him) is negligible, especially with two viable prospects somewhat unexpectedly on the roster. And two 1sts next year.

The Browns cannot go in to 2026 with zero additional information about Gabriel & Sanders (as in, regular season snaps). Trotting Kenny Pickett onto the field if/when Flacco goes down does absolutely nothing for the sake of clarity or long-term success.

Hell, if they could run a severely under-ready DTR out there, they can play Gabriel.

Gabriel is the most ready rookie QB the Browns have had in years. Not saying he's ready to light the NFL on fire, but that he's game-ready. Whereas Shedeur "drops back, drops back, drops back again, drops back a little further, starts to twirl, goes down" Sanders is nowhere close IMO.

Would you trade Sanders for a 1st rd pick, right now? It means flipping a 5th round pick into a 1st round pick. Unheard of in the NFL or at least very rarely done. It also means we are looking at next year's draft for our QBOTF and we own the 1st round.

The other play is to coach Sanders up and see what we have at the end of the year and possibly trade him at draft time.

I'm not sure what Gabriel's value looks like right now other than to say it has bumped up a bit.

Sanders is not worth a 1st or much of anything to anyone with any actual influence on an NFL franchise. He is also not really a part of our long-term plans. The only reason he is here is because of his surprising availability in the 5th.

Sanders can play his way into our future plans, but it seems unlikely he'll find his way to the field. Flacco would have to falter, Pickett would have to be traded/cut, and Gabriel would have to really suck. The first two seem likely, but Gabriel playing so poorly Stefanski of all people would bench him seems dubious.

On Gabriel, I think now that we've seen him in preseason it's clear his game translates. To what level (starter, backup, etc), we'll find out. He at least made Pickett's place on the team make little sense. With his record collegiate experience, significant draft capital, and a strong preseason, it makes sense for Gabriel to be backup. Probably better for the future too. Gabriel would make most sense to be the bridge for the QB we are likely to select next year.

Who's going to do that ?
He was passed on 140 times.

I've rewatched both Sanders & DG's snaps. the protection was night and day. the RT & LT Sanders played with .. are they making the roster ?
they were not good. the fact that Sanders never got any snaps with the 1s... we have no idea what that looks like. maybe that changes with closed practice. or they just cut him now. coach don't want him that's for sure.

Thank you. You guys see as well as well as most of us here and have validated that his value is something lower than that.

MS(sports)M nationally, seems to have an agenda to promote this kid as a victim of NFL racism due to the fact he was not drafted in the top 10 let alone the 1st round and recent BS about owners coming to some sort of agreement to blacklist him. (Ridiculous) However, we all see why he is a developmental QB. We don't know at this time how good he will be. He flashed early and got hurt then sucked balls. Only the Browns know how much his injury affected his play and his willingness to play through that injury yesterday. Bottom line is that the whole league had a grade on him that said he was a developmental QB. That's it.

Same for Gabriel. He's a developmental QB. That's it.

One played better than other on this day. That's it.

Neither Sanders nor Gabriel is a "developmental" QB. Both had 40+ starts in college.
Yes they both are developmental.

Their college stats are for the draft. None of that matters to KS as much as finding out which one gives him the best chance to win, in his offense.

Gabriel has the dropbacks down ok. Sanders not so much. Sanders has trouble stepping up in the pocket. Gabriel is a bit better. They both have to develop these traits.

Let’s not get too crazy.

Obviously first round placement is
Wild placement

Can’t wait see you wit?
Sorry, both these guys have played enough high-level football to be ready to learn and run an NFL offense. And both have demonstrated they can run the offense effectively, neither looks lost. That doesn't mean they are ready to do well in a real NFL game, or that they don't have a ton to learn. But both have played way too much football to be considered a "developmental" QB.

You're saying that they aren't "ready to do well in a real NFL game" and "they have a ton to learn", but that they're not developmental?
There's a difference. A guy who doesn't have a lot of starts in college or ran an option like offense but shows potential is often drafted as a "developmental QB," meaning he doesn't have the craft down and needs to learn from the ground up and is not expected to play for a few years.

As opposed to what Sanders and Gabriel are: QBs with tons of college experience in advanced type offenses. Of course they have to "develop" their games. But both could be expected to step in right away and not be overwhelmed by the Xs and Os.
