It will always be about our D and Q, regardless of who the QB is. As far as stats go it's very much relative to play calls. When we have 6 OLinemen and a TE on the field the deep ball is not typically an option.
Gabriel was fine for today. I don't think he's fine if we're playing any other NFL team. But he isn't turning it over, so. . . .

It's only been 3 games but it's pretty clear Dillon is a low-end game manager. He'll never be a steady starter. Nobody fears him and they never will which is why stepanski is gonna leave him in. He wants that high pick next year period. I'm not saying Sanders is any better but at least he'll throw it down field. Another reason why stepanski won't give up calling plays. Somebody might call a deep ball.

I'd say his ceiling is Jeff Garcia. Wait, Garcia was more athletic.
Maybe it's Ty Detmer. That dude was a back-up around the league for like a decade.
We aren't going anywhere when we have a QB who is praised for not making mistakes and not losing the game for us.
I bet he has a good game eventually, but I'll be stunned is he's our guy for 4-5 years even.
Currently, he's totaled a 59% completion rate on a bunch of short passes.
The Dolphins have the 20th ranked passing D. The Steelers are 31st.
We all agree we need better WR's and a better OL. But the really good QB's find a way to overcome. Burrow has dealt with a poor OL for years in Cinci. Baker's current OL is injury plagued.
So sure, if our D keeps playing like it is, we fix the OL and get a top-10 WR room, then Gabriel would do better, as would a ton of average QB's.

I think Gabriel is a great kid and a great team mate... The problem for me with Gabriel is.. He just does not drive the ball with enough authority.. By the same token... our WR's are trash.. I think Shadeur has the same issue... He doesn't gun the ball with authority... I'm becoming a big Mendoza fan.. My other candidates are Klubnik and Beck although Beck has struggled some.. My dark horse QB for the future is a kid who goes to Dayton University where my nephew plays DE... His name is Bryce Shondelmeyer.... He makes big time throws and could be a portal transfer to a bigger school.. Unfortunately he got injured this past Saturday with a loss to rival team Butler...

Agree there.
I'd be happy to blame the OL and WR's totally, if I saw flashes from him. So far, I've seen a few nice throws. Zero wow-throws.

Even the best of the best QB's rarely elevate teammates in their 3rd NFL start.
I am not saying that. Just that I'm not sure what he can be and I'm not ready to dismiss him as anything other than he can be a good backup at this point in time.
I also know that rookie QB's improve after their first season. Everybody knows that. That's it.

Same. I want to see the 6'04 220 Beck in a competitive game. Mendoza is playing UCLA this Saturday so that would be a good one to watch.
Both are high on my list as well as a couple others. It's always good to have options too in case the kid you want is stolen ahead of you.

I think we give Gabriel at least two more starts before looking at Sanders. There's no hurry. We have a lot of games left to evaluate both. But I have yet to see Gabriel throw a pass down the field that looks like it was thrown by an NFL starting QB.
