The Offensive Line

What is the "age regression" formula, btw? J/k

The Bears are an interesting study.

The Bears' offensive line gave up a league-high 37 sacks in 2024, but the revamped unit surrendered only 13 sacks in 2025. Chicago allowed just 145 pressures on 643 snaps, leading to an 87.7 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating, which ranked third in the NFL this season.

2025 OL
LT - Ozzie Trapilo - Drafted in 2nd round (56th overall)
LG - Joe Thurney - Acquired prior to the 2025 season via trade for a 4th round pick.
C - Drew Dalman - Signed prior to 2025 season as FA
RG - Jonah Jackson - Acquired prior to the 2025 season via trade for a 6th round draft pick.
RT - Darnell Wright - Drafted in 1st round, 10th pick overall by the Bears in 2023

The Bears went from one of the worst OL's in the NFL to the 3rd best (per PFF) with 4 new additions in the offseason - 2 trades, 1 FA and 1 draft pick.

Ozzie Trapilo was ranked as PFF's 9th best OT and 82nd overall player in the 2025 NFL draft.
Drew Dalman was a top ranked C in FA.

The Browns OL moves so far this offseason:

OT/OG - Tytus Howard - traded 6th round pick
OG - Zion Johnson - FA
C/OG - Elgin Jenkins - FA
OG - Tevin Jenkins - Resigned

- Howard is tabbed as the RT
- Johnson will play OG
- Elgin Jenkins - Everybody is assuming Jenkins is playing C, but he was an all-pro and at his best at OG. With Bitonio not coming back, I wouldn't 100% rule him out of playing OG... but he will probably play Center out of necessity.
- Tevin Jenkins - Played really well when he got his opportunity last season and ended up as a top 10 OG per PFF.

We have Dewan Jones who you would think will end up as our swing OT. Can't stay healthy and wasn't particularly good at LT. RT is more natural for him.

We probably draft our future LT - but Rasheed Walker is still available. Would be a pretty sly move to grab him in FA and create an flexibility in the draft.

Chicago showed that you can fix an offensive line in one offseason if you’re aggressive and mix draft picks, trades, and free agency. Cleveland has already taken the first steps toward doing the same thing. Add a tackle like Walker and hit on one lineman in the draft, and suddenly this group looks a lot different heading into 2026.

100% it's doable.
Heck, I think Vrabel rebuilt his entire defense last year during free agency.

The more I think about it, I'm surprised Sanders flashed at all with last year's OL, let alone last year's WR's and the lack of QJ in the end.

Just looked up Walker ... he's in the bottom half of LT's.
63 PFF grade, which my understanding is 60 = serviceable.
His agent may need a reality check.
59th ranked OT out of 94 with a 20% snap minimum

Conklin was 75th
KT was 82nd
Cam Robinson was 89th
Cornelius Lucas was 92nd

Damn near anyone is going to be an upgrade.
Historically bad OT play for us in 2025. Conk sucked and Dawand was out right from the jump.

we struggled just running the FB.forget passing & have 12 under centre hes not a shotgun QB.
he plays better in a "live"pocket.lots of movement pre & post snap.draft a #1WR who can
play improvised streetball style & can run the FB supporting 12's play style.we need great TE
play.look for us to draft a TE before the 5th rd,possibly even the 1st.we could take sadiq at
8-12 with a trade back? we just lost our last 1st rd TE njoku so makes sense

A major reason we struggled early is because Lil Dillon couldn't throw the ball further than 10 yards down the field and defenses knew that. The safeties were able to play up closer to the LOS.

A major reason we struggled late was because at least half the OL was injured and we lost Judkins.

Sanders played out of the shotgun the bulk of the time in college. He is a shotgun QB.

AI’s projection (makes sense) for the starting OL this fall:

LT: Monroe Freeling (rookie draft pick)
A projected top-10 selection with elite movement skills (4.93 40-yard dash at the Combine) and experience at Georgia. He’d step in as the Day 1 starter at left tackle, addressing a glaring need. If the Browns pass on OT early or trade down, Dawand Jones could slide here instead, but drafts point to prioritizing a premium tackle.

LG: Zion Johnson
The 26-year-old former first-rounder signed a 3-year, $49.5M deal ($32.4M guaranteed) after starting experience with the Chargers. His versatility (left/right guard) and run-blocking prowess make him a lock for the left side.

C: Elgton Jenkins
Signed to a 2-year, $24M deal ($20M guaranteed) after his release from the Packers. The 30-year-old brings Pro Bowl pedigree and multi-positional flexibility (center/guard), stabilizing the interior despite his recent ankle injury recovery.

RG: Teven Jenkins
Re-signed after rotating in 2025, providing continuity at right guard. A PFF overall grade for the 2025 regular season was 77.7, which ranked him 8th out of 81 qualifying guards league-wide, with a run blocking grade of 79.1 (6th out of 81 guards). His physicality pairs well with the new additions.

RT: Tytus Howard
Acquired via trade from the Texans, the 29-year-old brings starting experience at both tackle and guard. He’s penciled in at right tackle on a restructured deal, offering veteran reliability.

Insider stuff

- Never really pursed Vera-Tucker.
- Warhop really wanted Zion Johnson
- Tried to trade for Elgton Jenkins from the Packers for two weeks. Howard did help get him here. Sniped the Texans and Ravens on this player
- Warhop believes Jenkins can play either OG spot at a high degree and has displayed the physical ability to play with OT spot, especially in a pinch. The only reason he isn't more sought after by the league is health.
- Tytus Howard was targeted as soon as they learned he could be available. Warhop pushed hard to acquire him.

Lets hope he can make chicken salad out of these guys..

hmm, no reps in georgia this week? I see. we are faking freeling but taking fano!
bet we go to the utah pro days...the ol' berry switcharoo?
then pair fano with another utility player dunker in the 2nd rd.smart.2 players,4 positions.

^^ I'm down ^^

I'd love to have Tate, but we saw Jed Wills limit us at LT when the other 4 O-lineman were playing exceptionally well.

First hope : draft LT
Second hope : trade down with someone kind of close, like Dallas, Cinci, or Miami
Third hope : draft a WR
Worst fear : drafting an edge or a corner at 6

Of course, last year, I would have never ever guessed we'd go IDL with our first selection, so who knows.

Only two players on defense I'd consider drafting first.. Caleb Downs and that kid Bain from Miami U... I love that kids motor...
