Depends on how healthy he's been. I think I recall reading that he returned to practice some weeks ago, but there might be some hesitation to throw him to the lions if he's been heavily limited throughout much of the injury.

I don't know. Some guys go on IR just for the sake of getting them to IR, so he could be in shape after spending most of the time preparing. Or, he might have been set back and be a little behind.

I'm not overly worried, however, as Hubbard has been really bad so it's not like the kid could make life any harder... I hope.
 
Freddie said last month that Forbes is primarily a guard, with some potential swing OL ability.

Could be wrong, but it feels like he supplanted Corbett as the team's favored LT → IOL conversion project. And Campen's track record is to be patient tutoring those guys (TJ Lang: 3 starts over his first two seasons; JC Tretter: 0 starts).

Desmond Harrison'ing him in there right now at RT would seem a bit weird, pushing Teller down the line at RG less so.
 
Maybe, Alo. But with the interior probably set with guys nowhere close to retirement, I've heard/read quite a bit about the team feeling that Forbes could be a serious RT candidate. There's really no place else to put him anyway.

We'll see. Feels like a next year thing.

Worth mentioning: Yet another game against a good pass-rush team where it didn't bother us much.
 
Fair. But Teller & Forbes functionally were late-round adds: it'd be a big win if the two of 'em capably fill out the RG depth chart, esp when all the new tackles aren't gonna be cheap.

Also notable: Teller's PFF grades in his first three starts — 43.7, 57.3, 52.0 — are in the same ballpark as Kush's last three (51.4, 59.7, 43.2). Like how he plays, but that's still a spot in need of growth and/or upgrade.
 
Teller's playing well and growing, though. He's been pass blocking way better than Kush and his run-blocking has now improved game-to-game twice. I isolated on him against Pittsburgh a lot and the dude can really move, often gets downfield, can run trickeration stuff really well, races to the spot.

I don't think we'd draft a guard high with Bitonio, Teller, Kush, and (kinda) Forbes. I do think we'll add a couple tackles.

I slowed down teller too vs the bills
teller couldn't block the 5th or 6th string lineman off the edge with a head of steam
his big moment on primetime pulling to the edge on a goalline play with chubb right behind him
he nearly tripped over himself and got de-stroyed
everyone else blocked well,If he had kept the edge,its an easy TD
having watched the play 5-6 times?
I would have replaced him or cut him on the spot based on that shocking display alone

he's not ready for primetime and the guys behind him are not better
or they would be starting
I mean do you think he could ever make a pro bowl? like J-bit?

Dude, you can't honestly start a post concluding "Teller and Forbes suck." You're basically saying one of the most respected OL coaches in the NFL, Campen, and Dorsey are both fucking morons. I don't agree.

It's really rare to trade not one but two picks for a guard like the Browns did for Teller. A 5th and a 6th is a hefty price with the way draft picks are overvalued. And the Browns crowed like mad after they "stole" Forbes, then raved about him in camp as it was revealed that Campen pushed for him. The team jumped through hoops to make sure they could get him on the field this season.

It's safe to say the Browns like both guys quite a bit, both will be on the team, and both have a legit shot to start. It seems likely the Browns interior will be considered set going into the offseason but we'll find out game by game.

Saw Joe Marino's mock and he gave the Browns a serious RT to replace Hubbard. This seems like the right time to say Greg Robinson again gave up 0 sacks or hits and was our 2nd rated pass blocker at 75. People can continue insisting that he sucks too... but he factually does not. He's a left tackle, his job is to not give up sacks or hits, and he's done that very well for the Browns since he got here.

I just preach caution. It's harder than you think to get a rookie LT to play as well as Robinson is playing right now. Odds are it would not be a first-year upgrade. I would be considering drafting in R1 to replace Hubbard but coming to another reasonable deal with Robinson.

That said, I feel like the relationship is strained for reasons I don't fully understand. He was not the one who should've been benched.

JD is a great GM.Is he a perfect GM who bats 1000 every at bat?

how can you see what happened vs the bills and say our line is tight?

I do think we will replace teller either with FA or the draft

BTW we traded for teller in September 2019
and he (and the o-line) is not an afterthought? does this look well planned to you?

Here's what I'll tell you, friend: The Browns really dig Teller and Forbes. We'll see how it turns out but Teller is already promising. Both guys will play roles next year, Teller almost certainly starts.

And when you think maybe our O-line sucks? Please remember that it does not. We run the ball really well and don't give up many sacks. 5th in YPC (4.9) and middle of the pack in sacks, 26... which just happens to be the league median, more or less. Worst is 42 and best is 13, I think.

I think a big part of the reason baker has struggled this year is the line
Its not the worst in the NFL,no
I just think If we are serious about beating the power house teams
in the NFL our line has to be as good as possible.
teams step up when it really counts
like the bills showed
imagine we are in the AFC title game vs the pats with this line at the goal?
we dont have a chance against them as things stand today
we need to aim higher

I'll sig bet you teller will not start at R-guard next year
he'll be lucky to hold off the guys behind him this year

Teller's pass blocking grade is good so far, among the likes of Scherff, Scharping, Seumalo, and Connor Williams.

He's easily outgrading names like Whitehair, Flowers, Eiflein, and Lupati,

His run blocking grade is meh thus far, as he doesn't have the quantity of snaps to offset the 8th and goal debacle he was part of.

But Hunt + Chubb look great thus far, and he's pass-blocking well for Baker, so that's more of the goal than winning a PFF trophy.
 
Adding Njoku is going to improve the blocking...AND it is going to improve TTT for Baker. In other words, the Browns OL 'should' look vastly improved over the final 6 games.
 
DawgFan making the simple but smart observation. So much other than switching out starters makes a line look good. I'll never forget 2007 when an OL went from a problem to a strength... because we pulled Charlie Frye.

Back half of last year, our line looked fantastic. Only change is Zeitler to Teller and statistically that ain't changing much. Robinson has been pretty much the same guy, Hubbard's been worse.

I'd be replacing Hubbard at a high level (round 1) and trying to keep Robinson. But that's me. I don't see rookies starting at both tackles so it's either Robinson or a free agent we hope will be a little better... no clue who that would be.

Very true, tho you also don't wanna fall into the Kevin Shaffer/Chris Hubbard trap, thinking a guy's The Guy cuz he didn't get in the way of a hot streak.

Hopefully, Teller proves to be more, stabilizing things for Baker and next year's rookie RT. Alternatively, perhaps Forbes or someone else better activates the run game (3.9 YPC from the backs over the last three games).

The Teller trade comp remains a win, though, even if he turns out to be reliable third OG. The Pats gave up similar value (forked over a 4, got back a 6) for a reserve lineman who's barely played to date, probably will show up big as a spot playoff game starter some day.

maybe not statistically,but it has not made our line better and the
line wasn't fantastic last year.
our line looks about med rare to me.
a little under done.

I dont buy the assumption we cant start a rookie OT and G
If they come through camp and are better than who we have?
they will start in the NFL
experience,size,strength,age and colour be damned
If we draft good enough they will start and they will improve our line.period.

as Ive said before this draft for o-linemen is really strong
If we are serious about winning IMO we need to go 1-2 OT and G
I've got 5-6 tackles going in the 1st round
but maybe only 1 G in the 1st
SO round 2 elite guards will be on offer
I hope we have learnt our lesson from last off season

dont get me wrong.I like teller.he's a super nice guy and his
team mates seem to genuinely respect him.
the truth is he got traded from a team who's guards are not very good
we are stuck with our line now until the end of the year
we are probably lucky to have him for 2019 TBH
this could have been much worse

In the end, I can't really guess much beyond the organization's apparent high interest in Teller and Forbes as we move forward. I'm sure we'll be adding multiple OL, one early in the draft... but there are shit tons of roads to Mecca.

I also feel certain the team has high hopes for coming out of this season set on the interior.
