The Offensive Line

I've been thinking about Hubbard for a couple weeks because Jake Burns has been pimping this move. Maximized by the OZB, terrific athlete, now an OT swing but can also compete at RG, literally backs up every position. Has even played center.

Recontextualized? He's a really valuable guy, high-end for the role he'll play. I was thinking if we'd cut him, he'd be a Steeler in about an hour. They were really bummed to lose him, had him aimed at being their starting RT.

Honestly, Hubbard, Lamm, and Forbes is kind of a luxury, plus the new guy (Brown). Really strong depth, guys who've played and a developmental guy two administrations have really liked.
 
The new IOL Brown is a complete freak athlete, like 9.32 RAS. Quiet but very targeted acquisition, lacked an IOL swing... and he fits the W-ZBS to a tee.

Now Callahan gets his hands on a couple freaks to mold on the inside (Teller).

Give me a break with this Jake Burns crap....I have been saying Hubbard was likely in the picture from the first week we got Stefanski as the HC. I said at least a dozen times that his athleticism would actually be very useful in the OZB scheme. I wouldn't even be surprised if he supplants Teller at RG.

I took a lot of shit for saying he is a fit, so damn straight I am going to take credit for being the first on this.
 
Sorry, DF, missed it, believe you. I've read a few times that Hubbard might be kinda meh at RG because he's not very strong. Teller is ridiculous, Callahan loves him, think it's his job to lose.

I kinda feel like he's been impressing people WITHOUT getting a full camp at one position. RG is ideal for him because he's both strong and nasty but also athletic... so he's a potential breakout.
 
I was reading from T Williams agent that essentially said
the skins are stuck on wanting a second for him but his
agent also said there open to a deal somewhere in the
range of 16 per.
The whole thing seems so awkward but the Skins are
not a decent franchise, there still on the hook for 12.25
if he remains on the team....again!
How about Vernon for Williams straight up?
 
I don't think anybody wants to pay Vernon 15.5 based on his last few seasons. I'd sure as hell want him to renegotiate if he's staying. And then need to draft a DE because he's missed a lot of time and has some ankle/knee stuff.

I'm really hoping for Everson Griffen.
 
Vernon was stellar in his contract year in 2015, but hasn't lived up to it since. What kind of idiot says, "Hey, this guy hasn't lived up to his billing since his contract year 3 years ago, so let's trade the best RG in the league who HAS lived up to his billing for this other guy." ... ?

The Browns have done some stupid, stupid shit in the past 20 years, but the Vernon trade just might take the cake.

I was worried about that trade from day 1...didn't like it, but I was poo poohed here. Been saying all last year we screwed the pooch. Vernon is a good guy, but he can't stay on the field. I bet he gets traded after the draft.
 
Shocker.

Thomas-Bitonio-Tretter-Teller-Conklin. Gonna be the best line we've had since that ridiculous one didn't win anything (!). But now we have actual skill players behind it.

On offensive personnel alone... we have to be #1. Especially after it's re-established that Baker is one of the best few QBs under 30 in the NFL.

I am a believer in him but he definitely has to prove it. There is a lot riding on the success of Baker Mayfield for this team. Glad we'll finally have a line to protect him. Now to shore up left tackle.

We literally don't have a LT and RG is still questionable.

Teller might be alright at RG, but it's too soon to tell. He was okay last year, but more a case of some good/some bad rather than just outright being average. He could turn out to be a worthwhile guard, he could need to be replaced.

But LT is the bad spot. We're either converting a fucking shitty Hubbard to LT or rolling with Kendall Lamm, who is meh at best. We need an upgrade there in a major way.

Our only set positions are Bitonio at LG, Tretter at C and Conklin at RT.

Considering the Hubbard restructure, and that Conklin played LT for most of his college career, it is not out of the relm of possibly that CLE might be thinking of moving Conklin to LT.
