The Offensive Line

He was sacked 5 times. We blocked really well for the run, McCray's wheelhouse, but pass protection was so-so. Definitely not better.

I struggle to see McCray continuing at LT for very long. But yeah, the concept of running the ball down people's throats with Chubb and Hunt has some appeal. Let the battery gel in a cozy play-action environment like Baltimore or Seattle.
 
I have 1 for sure and maybe 2 of those sacks on Mayfield. He's still young and he still holds in situations where he needs to get rid of it to see another down.

They weren't great, but I didn't see the OL's play as the fatal flaw yesterday.

If we're being honest, we already know the fatal flaw that's plagued us all year: mental prep and toughness. Our negative plays are disproportionately a result of our own mistakes. There's no stat for it that I know of, but if there were we'd be leading the league by a fair margin.

Cut out the mistakes and I bet we stop talking about this OL that is paving the way for the NFL's best RB this year.
 
Saw that we have SIXTEEN false starts, our most frequent penalty as the (duh) most penalized team in the league. That's strictly lack of discipline, not like shit that happens in football (like your guard kicking the ball out of your hands somehow).

Like, just stopping THAT shit would make a big difference. It really would. So many 1st and 15s or 2nd and 15s.

Baloney. Team shake up their OL across the league; season in and season out. Hell, we've done it in season's past whether it be due to injury or benching. Doesn't matter. Doesn't result in a league leading false start problem.

Its scheme and coaching. I'm convinced of it.

Add in the only shake up to the starting OL prior to yesterday was RH and OL coach

Teller had the top pass-blocking grade (79.1), but played just five snaps. Teller also had the second-best run blocking grade (52.6) behind Bitonio (64.3), but played just four rushing snaps.

I get wanting to give Teller a run, but rotating guards is weird. Either make the switch or don't make the switch. Evidently, it wasn't overly detrimental, but hopefully the sample has Kitchens choose a starter moving forward.
 
Oline is based on continuity,
It’s like being in the trenches in war,you want to know the guy left or right of you has your back.
Can’t trade for that mid season.
I don’t see it,we need veteran help for sure but we made our roster this year, RB’s WR’s
can be plugged in not lineman that takes time.

I dont disagree that coaching has a role to play
especially since they made the changes that got us here afterall
 
Continuity is indeed key... but good teams seem to shuffle dudes in and out and keep it rolling. Look at who starts for the Chiefs, for god's sake! And the Patriots average draft position of their line is about mid 5th round.

Brady does not fuck around with the football. Tick, tick, tick, get that shit outta here, throw it into the stands. Live to fight another day. Baker needs to do that most of the time. He's mobile and creative but he's not Mahomes.

Paid two draft picks to get him
He must be on the radar to start if they're rotating him in (agree - weird method)
Goes in ice cold and performs well, yes, in limited snaps.

We have Tretter and Bitonio for the continuity part.

Forbes, Teller, Tretter, Bitonio, and McCray or the guy Dorsey brings in today ... gets my vote.

Kush should be the new swing back-up IOL

I have to think after getting spot duty and playing well that Teller moves into the starting lineup. It's inevitable after what we traded to get him.

An OT is coming in today for sure, just a matter of which one. I think it'll be the big fish. We have assets and nobody's gonna give a first. Patriots can't afford him. I think a 2nd and a player will end up getting it done. Win-win trade.
 
Reports are GRob is being re-inserted into the starting line-up at LT.

Shep and the other "wtf were they doing benching him" crowd seem vindicated. A weird, weird move. I'd hate to thing it was a disciplinary-based move to bench him. Seems a good staff would find other ways to get through to a guy. It guess it would be worse if it was a performance based move as a one week run shows a lack of forethought.
 
I’ll admit I don’t know Oliver’s role in the goal line stands. I just don’t recall his name being called much.

He had no stats though. No tackles, pressures, sacks, etc.

I noticed in denver the last Q our guys were spent
I know "but its a mile high"
these are elite athletes
I wonder about their conditioning as a possible factor in their run blocking performance today

Agree. Silencing Ed Oliver doesn’t hold much water after that day inside the 5.
That many cracks at it, you’d think you’d accidentally call the right play at least once.
