The Offensive Line

Interested to hear what the f-ing problem was getting a badass back like Chubb into the end zone. Blocking seemed to be a mess.

Teller is a physical freak, both strong and athletic, but he's switching to the right side. I wonder if he's still gelling.
 
I'm ready to stick it out with Teller the rest of the season. I'm sure he'll take it on the chin with the rest of the O-line for our 8th & goal debacle, but at least there's more upside potential vs Kush.

Teller played so well for the Bills last year as an injury replacement, then was awesome again in preseason, so he's not a loss his teammates wanted to see. But it made sense because they have a surplus there.

We ran the ball SO well. I didn't see middle pressure either. So just eyeballing, he did at least pretty damn well. I think we'll see that he had issues on the goal line debacle though.

Team is committed to making him the long-term RG and that's how it should be. Don't be jerking people in and out. He's physically special, a RAS nut with gorilla strength. Just get him reps.

We'll already be going bit at the tackles, probably a high pick and a priority free agent. Need to anchor in the interior.
 
PFF grades out.

Teller, Bitonio, and Trett all with very good passblocking grades in the Bills game.
G-Rob and Hubbard - not so much.

Keep that interior 3 together for the duration please. ZERO O-line penalties last game btw (edit - there was a false start on Hubbard)

Hubbard struggles with speed and I saw it very clearly yesterday. That said, I think he's a middle-of-the-road starting LT who would do just fine on scads of winning teams. Only a handful are complete.

It'll be interesting to see how we address the tackle spots. Hubbard would seem to be history, almost certainly Robinson too. Would the Browns sign Bulaga to play right (where he is now) or left? I could see him or Trent Williams plus the 1st round pick.

Forbes will definitely figure in at RT. Won't be stunned if we see him there this season, maybe in some spot snaps like Teller before he took over. I'm sure the team would love a glimpse and, again, they went out of their way to make sure he's available.
 
GRob sucks and Hubbard is slightly better, but I could see Hubbard sticking around as a back up T. He'd be a damn good back up RT/LT.

We will be adding another LT and possibly a RT after this season most definitely and a TE.
 
Robinson has been much better than Hubbard throughout their stays in Cleveland. Hubbard's PFF and raw stats are just dreadful. Robinson keeps his QB clean, although I will say now that he's stopped all penalties for 2 full games, he has allowed a couple sacks.

I'm guessing that's causal (!). Again, he's fair, like a middle of the road starting left tackle. outside of the top 15 but better than 22-32. Somewhere in there.

Hubbard is garbage. I won't be at all shocked if we see Forbes soon.

I'm hoping for a G and an OT in the draft
but If we do something in FA?
3 could be doable
If we are serious about going to a bowl game
could be a good idea
after all an o-line is only as good as its weakest link
 
Curious to see if they pull the trigger and activate Forbes by tomorrow, that's the deadline. They like him and Teller and I expect they're in the conversations around Bitonio and Tretter.

Both could start next year. Or not. But with Forbes able to play guard and Kush staying around as the swing, I don't know that I'd be shopping for guards. I'd be looking to draft an OT at the top and then sign another high-level upgrade (Bulaga or Williams).

Its just that the top 3 guards in the draft this year are really nasty,aggressive players
Its the best o-line class in recent memory IMO
but we must see teller play better than that (his footwork was so bad)

watch the GL stands in slow-mo,I did (sick f%ck!)
-#77 fails badly (nana blocks better than that) he pulls to set the right edge-fail
-they play #86 and #88 on the left edge (TE's) and run chubb behind them-fail
FK's tries this twice
-they pull #77 again and he fails again but the entire line collapses anyway

Our TE's are a big problem
playing TE's to block on run plays is an obvious liability for us
why would you rely on 2 TE's as primary blockers on a GL run?
which fails miserably then do it again?!? playcalling?

It really looks like he doesn't know what his personnel are good at
you have teller pulling and TE's blocking? no no no (twice each identical plays)
you could blame execution on players
but If you put them in positions where they are going to struggle (TE blocking DE)
Its not the players fault

So that seals it for me
all year we are trying to figure out whats wrong with this OFF
in a word its - coaching

Pete Smith wrote a nice little article about Teller giving the Browns more reason to hope that their interior is set for the long-ish haul. He pass blocked fantastically and improved game to game in run blocking (about scheme, obviously not strength).

What's Kush's deal? Smith was echoing what we've beens saying, that as a swing backup, he's really strong. And if we have our starting three and top backup, and maybe the other top backup (McCray), I'd guess we're set on the interior.

OT right now, as far as guys we think are in for the larger window... it's really Drew Forbes. We need tackles.
 
OBJ was interfered with otherwise that's 7. i forgot about the other toss on the right side to OBJ. Their CB T. White made a sensational play on a ball that OBJ had in his hands for 7. White just made a perfect slap of the ball out of his hands. Otherwise that's 7.

So while at first glance it looks like we messed it up it had a lot to do with the bills defense doing what they had to do at the time like take a PI and making a sensational pass breakup.

On the next step in the process for T Drew Forbes and the opportunity to activate him from IR/designated to return:

“We will probably wait until tomorrow and make that decision. There are a couple of things that have to happen in order to make moves like that, and I do not really know if I want to put that out there right now.”

On how prepared Forbes is to contribute, if activated:

“Drew has done an excellent job. Here is what Drew has done – he has done a great job of carrying over things that he learned, and his learning continued to improve, even though he was not on the field getting reps so that gives him a chance, yes.”

I am betting he will be activated for next weeks game.
 
I hope so. He was Campen's pick (allegedly) so I won't be surprised if he gets some RT snaps sooner than later. Athletic freak. Long-term right side of Teller and Forbes feels more likely than not at this exact moment.

Makes the draft clear: LT and #3 WR in rounds 1 and 2. Safety is a need but maybe we make that our f/a target, also draft another in R3 (and another tackle in R3 as well).
 
If he's not activated today he'll be sitting the rest of the year. Considering we need to win out I'd activate him and wait for an opportunity to get him some snaps to evaluate his performance.
