Trade rumors...

That's be great, unfortunately we'd probably get the kid killed or ruin his career. I like Troy, but I'd hate to f--k him up and ruin what career he may have in the NFL. That said, I'd be all for the trade because hope is hope and I could use some now.

We do have some hope, I just asked the majic 8ball

I just want to go on record as the first guy to say that picking up troy smith this offseason is VERY likely.

Kokinis worked for Baltimore and knows Smith very well, smith has thrown NFL touchdowns, but has yet to throw a pick.

If you ppl dont remember he was gonna start last year until he became seriously ill, he had Mono.

I think Smith can be a really good QB in this league, he has everything except height

I would not mind Troy at all, because I think he's not a bad QB. The primary knock against him is his height. To this argument, I point to DA: 6'6", gets batted down on a regular basis. It's not like his arm is tiny, either: he loosed a few dragons at tOSU. Unless Quinn shows he's significantly better than he's shown in his first six games (which is entirely impossible, I've been told), Troy's better than anything we have by a good deal.

If we go with Troy, DA and Quinn need to both be gone (entirely likely), and we cannot draft a 1st round QB. If we do go first round QB, start him. Just one year without QB controversy. Please.

Nevertheless, I am almost willing to guarantee that Troy Smith is a pipedream. It has some basis in logic, but it's never going to happen. EVER.

Do feel free to quote me if I am wrong. I would love to be wrong.

Since watching Troy Smith in the Senior Bowl and then in preseason games, I wouldn't get all that excited about him as a backup, let alone a starter. His problems have problems. He's short, his mechanics are iffy, his accuracy is below average, and his arm is good but not awesome. He flutters the deep ball.

Leinart, yeah. I'd be interested. But I can't for the life of me figure why Arizona would move him. They're getting him in games late right now because he's probably the starter next season.

Apparently, the folks at theOBR don't think a big Browns trade is likely. However, they have heard that the Titans and Jaguars inquired about Quinn.

Also, the Packers asked about Steinbach as a potential stopgap left tackle. If the Browns get Desmond Bishop, I'd be very happy with a Steiny deal.

Looks like theOBR is running one of their free 7 day trials. I think I'm going to go sign up; that way, I 'll hear about any possible trade fifteen minutes before the rest of you :p

Apparently, we've become the center of the trade universe until 4p.m.

Cleveland Browns are at the center of the NFL trade universe

CLEVELAND -- Will the Browns add to their stockpile of picks in the 2010 draft by swinging another deal before today's 4 o'clock NFL trade deadline?

The prominent names mentioned in rumors have been quarterback Brady Quinn, specialist Josh Cribbs and defensive end Corey Williams.

Not-so-prominent rumors have posed trade possibilities involving linebacker Kamerion Wimbley, nose tackle Shaun Rogers, and, yes, even left tackle Joe Thomas.

Why are the Browns the subject of so many rumors? That's obvious. Coach Eric Mangini has not been shy about pulling the trigger on trades to rid his locker room of players not with his program.

Also, word spread quickly after Mangini assessed his inherited roster in February that the Browns would be willing to trade anybody except Thomas and linebacker D'Qwell Jackson.

Mangini and General Manager George Kokinis affirmed that notion by trading tight end Kellen Winslow on Feb. 27 -- the very first day of the NFL trading season. In April, they made three trades in the first round of the draft. In August, they traded defensive lineman Louis Leonard. Two weeks ago, they traded receiver Braylon Edwards.

Mangini has engineered two blockbuster trades with his old team, the Jets -- one on draft day giving them the chance to draft quarterback Mark Sanchez and then shipping them Edwards, a No. 1 receiver.

Now the Jets are looking for a defensive lineman to replace Pro Bowl tackle Kris Jenkins, who is out for the year with a torn knee ligament. Could Mangini and Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum pull off yet another trade? Anything is possible.

So far, Mangini's trades have netted four additional picks in the 2010 draft on April 22-24. In addition to their own selections in each of the seven rounds, the Browns now possess:

• The Jets' third-round and fifth-round picks (Edwards trade). If Edwards finishes with 55 or more catches, the first choice improves to the second round.

• Tampa Bay's fifth-round pick (Winslow trade).

• Carolina's sixth-round pick (Leonard trade).

Absolutely refuse to believe Thomas is in that mix. That move would lose fans for years. I understand the rebuilding thing but the absurdity in that move goes way beyond the norm

Hey, I should read my own post. Isn't this the first time we've known the production BE needs to change the traded pick from a 3rd to a 2nd rounder? 55 it is. He has 8 so far, so 47 to go. So, he has to average 4.7 catches/game the rest of the way to bump us to the 2nd round.

Can't imagine a reason to trade Thomas. So we can do what? Get another 1st rd draft choice OT who we hope makes it to the Pro Bowl? Ain't gonna happen.

The real bummer here is if we trade for a pile of draft pick today, then we're officially talking draft here for the next 6 months. :(

The BE trade being a conditional 3rd (potential for 2nd) has been the report since the deal was done. This is the first time though I have seen what it takes to make that 3rd a 2nd.
