I questioned that, but someone found a statement from Steff that they are planning to keep Conklin at RT.

BTW, RT is actually the more difficult T position in WZB as they have to be able to peel back and seal on runs. Hubbard may actually be a decent fit at LT in this scheme???

Not saying we shouldn't be looking to improve and get another guy in the draft or via FA, but he may surprise some.

Of course, there is a lot of debate at the RG spot, and lock vs back-up etc.

I wouldn’t call Teller a lock, but otherwise it’s pretty hard to argue with that. It wouldn’t surprise me if someone took a punt of Taylor if/when we tried to sneak him onto the PS.

Agreed. And Berry was part of the previous regime who moved on from Zach Banner too quickly, which allowed him to play quite well in Pittsburgh. Might be a little more protective of a development freak this time around.

Taylor is such an interesting guy. The world of talent, but just so new to the game and inexperienced against decent competition. But he had a fantastic combine, testing similar to the first round picks, and was said to be impressive at the Senior Bowl.

Some projected him as high as the third round. It's easy to see why, just as it's easy to see why he went undrafted, but there is no doubt the talent is there.

I wouldn't be against him getting carried on the 53 to make sure we see out the initial stages of his development. The only concern is injury because he really isn't ready for the big leagues. He'll have to impress and show during preseason that he can handle the heightened competition. The last thing you want is someone going down and Taylor being thrust in to the NFL world of starting defensive ends straight away.

I keep reading that it’s not that simple... that it’s really still the 53 with some leeway for two more.

And frankly, I can’t be arsed reading the CBA personally, so... someone explain it to me?

Under old CBA it was a 53 man roster with 46 players allowed to be active on game day. Under new CBA it is 55 man roster with 48 players allowed to be active on game day.

The likely scenario for teams is those two extra roster spots get filled by guys a team doesn't think will make it to the practice squad or will get signed off of their practice squad
 
I dont think CLE would be Warfords next team. Does not seem ideal for Wide Zone scheme. Definitely a Power Run stud type.

I think our starting RG longterm is on the current roster between Wyatt Teller and Drew Forbes. Both seem good for the Wide Zone blocking.

CLE may start 2020 with Bitonio— Tretter —Hubbard to maximize savvy veteran play early on in the new system

But
NICK HARRIS and TELLER/FORBES
are definitely the future as soon as 2021.
 
I think I need to change my stance on the potential signing of Larry Warford. That is not to say he isn't a credible NFL player - he certainly is. He may just not be the best fit in Cleveland.

When I first saw he was available, I bought in to the facts that he is: a right guard, a three time Pro Bowler, and is still on the right side of 30.

Now the Saints have had a hell of a lot more success recently than the Browns. Generally, if a player on a team like that is as good as his press clippings - they find a way to justify his salary. And they don't burn their top draft pick on that player's replacement.

Looking deeper into his release, the biggest knock against Larry is his foot speed. He has the reputation of being one of the slowest guards in the NFL. Why was he slow? A lot is God given, but was he working as hard as he could to maximize that? I am sure his coaches had many conversations with Larry about conditioning, diet, etc. Was he resistant to coaching?

Something came up that forced the Saints hand where they saw an opportunity to save almost $8M in cap space (altough it did cost them $5M in a dead money hit).

"Slow" and the schemes that the Browns run on offense and defense are not a good match. It is the same scenario that led the Browns to select Jacob Phillips over Malik Harrison. Jacob is more of a speed player and Malik is more the traditional thumper.

After seeing Andrew Berry and company's performance a few weeks ago - I believe in them. If they choose to not sign Warford, I would be okay with that. I am not against upgrading the team when the opportunity presents itself. It just needs to be the right player.
 
Beat me to it, Brooksie: Mauler, not the best fit... but most of all, we've invested SO heavily in the OL, you can't field a line built entirely from fat contracts.

I'll disagree with others: Teller is a total roster lock and damn near a lock starter at RG. They like him a lot, especially Callahan. They see a long-term guy who can sit on a light contract for a couple more years before they have any decisions to make.

Starters: Wills, Bitonio, Tretter, Teller, Conklin. Teller will be instantly better for having Conklin next to him and then he'll improve from there. Has never practiced at RG for an entire camp.

Harris, Forbes, and Hubbard are pretty much locks, too. If it's eight, that's it... but I bet they'd like to keep Lamm on his soft contract, too.
